Action 4: Build our teams and win our employees' loyalty
Raising employees' support for our environmental policy
Bouygues Immobilier aims to develop environmental awareness at every stage of a project, from the design phase to delivery.
Awareness building, training and monitoring of our personnel are critical to building expertise in the technologies required for Habitat & Environment and HQE® certification.
More than 500 employees are involved in this environmental policy. Training and awareness-building programmes have been organised with the certification body Cerqual and the engineering consultancy GreenAffair. In 2007, special training related to Habitat & Environment certification was conducted at Bouygues Immobilier so that employees would understand its import, embrace it, and inform customers about it. All the design and construction managers, land developers and project managers received training in the H&E certification scheme. Operational staff (salespeople and project managers) can use resources available on the greenaffair.com website.
Enhancing employees' awareness of practical measures
A working group has been set up and given the task of producing a list of ways in which the company can be as economical as possible with the resources it needs in order to operate. All staff have been invited to apply these simple measures, described in a special area of the intranet, and to give their feedback and suggestions via a special forum.
Employees have suggested a total of 723 practical measures at work, and several of them have already been adopted. These include turning off the lights when leaving a room, not leaving electrical devices on stand-by, using video conferencing, double-sided printing of documents if possible, sorting and collecting recyclable waste, etc.
When multiplied by the number of employees, all these small actions have a significant impact on the environment.
Assembling a team that reflects French society
Bouygues Immobilier maintains gender equality in its workforce: 52% of employees hired in 2007 were women and 48% were men.
Bouygues Immobilier recruits many recent graduates and has a policy of supporting professional development through paid internships: 25% of the students who did training at Bouygues Immobilier in 2006 joined the company at the end of their internship.
A mentoring system was started up again in 2007. Each new hire gets a helping hand from an older staff member for 18 months, outside of their employee-manager relationship, to become familiar with the business. This system ensures the transmission of the company's know-how and values.
Since experience in the company's business is valuable, Bouygues Immobilier does everything possible to keep older staff motivated, and regularly recruits people over the age of 50.
Employment of the disabled is an area where Bouygues Immobilier aims to do more. One person has been appointed in the human resources department to improve hiring procedures and provide support to disabled employees.
Enhancing skills and employee loyalty
Half our employees have been with the company for less than two years, so integration and training are priorities at Bouygues Immobilier. In 2007, 3.7% of the total payroll was spent on training, and three-quarters of the workforce attended training during the year.
Employees in France and the rest of Europe also enjoy attractive benefits programmes, and a remuneration system has been designed to give them a stake in the company's success.
